On January 16, 2025, the National Identity Registration Act of 2023 (Act No. 40) was repealed, which had shifted the responsibility for national ID registration away from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Election Commission's control, aligning with Article 119(1) of the Constitution. That article assigns the Commission the key role of preparing and updating voter lists for presidential and parliamentary elections, along with overseeing other electoral activities. This will need to be approved by the next parliament.
