Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday said that BNP will implement the July Charter that was signed by itself and the other political parties.

The prime minister said, “We want to clearly tell the countrymen once again that when Dr Muhammad Yunus invited the political parties to sign the July Charter at the South Plaza of Parliament, the BNP was the first to sign it”.

“So, we will implement every letter, every word, every line of the July Charter that BNP has signed,” he said, adding that BNP will implement the charter that was signed by itself and the other political parties.

Tarique made the remarks while addressing a student rally at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Santosh here this afternoon.

The PM also urged the countrymen to remain alert against those opposing BNP’s welfare programmes.

“We must remain vigilant against all those parties, against all those people who want to spread confusion . . . and those who will try to obstruct the government’s welfare oriented programmes,” he said.

About the opposition party’s role in Parliament, he said “What have we seen in Parliament? Those, who have got only a small number of votes, are now demanding that whatever they say must be accepted”.

The BNP chairman, however, said, “We have seen those who are now in the opposition were in a dilemma whether they would sign or not at that time”.

Another party of them even did not sign at first and only signed after the election, he said, adding, “We can ask those who are shouting about the July movement, if they are so emotional to the movement, why did they not sign first?”
