Bangladesh Labour Amendment Ordinance, 2025, specifies setting minimum wages for workers in all industries every three (3) years. Previously, the period was five years for selected sectors.
Observation
Earlier experiences suggest that, despite having legal obligations, this provision was not followed by all sectors on a regular basis.
Measuring the progress of this reform's implementation may consider generating data for the following indicators:
    1. Frequency of setting minimum wages by sector
    2. An evidence-based, participatory (involving all stakeholders), transparent wage-setting methodologies
    3. Wage disparity ratio between highest and lowest paid workers, and between public and private sectors
